The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 21.
In a statement on Friday, the agency expressed appreciation
to taxpayers for their continued compliance, noting a surge in usage of its
eTax platform following the earlier extension to April 14.
The tax body said the increased traffic on the platform
reflects efforts by taxpayers to meet the filing deadline.
“In view of this development, and to ensure that all
taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their
filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for
April 21, 2026,” the statement reads.
“This additional extension is granted in consideration of
the overwhelming response and to enhance taxpayer convenience, while
maintaining the integrity and accuracy of submissions.”
The agency reminded taxpayers that filing annual income tax
returns remains a statutory obligation and urged them to take advantage of what
it described as a “final extension”.
Ayodele Subair, the executive chairman of the agency,
reiterated that all filings must be completed electronically via the LIRS eTax
platform, “the only approved channel for submission”.
On February 25, the agency asked individual taxpayers in
Lagos to file their annual tax returns for the 2026 year of assessment on or
before March 31.
But the LIRS extended the deadline to April 14, noting that
the extension would give taxpayers more time to complete their filings.
