At least 16 people have been killed in a renewed bandit attack on Bagna and Yelwa communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State
.The victims include 14 vigilante members among them the Commander of the vigilante group in Bagna and two civilians, one of whom was a woman.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, according to local sources. While the bandits inflicted heavy casualties on the defending vigilantes and residents, security forces and local vigilantes reportedly neutralised 110 of the attackers during the fierce confrontation.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks in the southern part of Niger State, where banditry and kidnapping have continued despite repeated military operations in the region.
