ADC: Why US Should Impose Visa Ban on Tinubu’s Officials – Timi Frank

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on the United States and the international community to impose sanctions, including visa bans, on key officials of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Friday, Frank accused the current government of using state institutions to undermine opposition parties and weaken Nigeria’s democracy ahead of future elections.

He urged the U.S. government to impose visa restrictions, economic sanctions, and asset freezes on top government functionaries allegedly involved in anti-democratic practices.

Frank claimed that the Tinubu administration is deliberately deploying the judiciary, legislature, and other institutions to frustrate opposition forces, with the goal of ensuring no strong candidates emerge to challenge the president in future polls.

“The aim and goal are to ensure that no political party fields a candidate strong enough to contest with the president,” he said. He warned that such actions, if left unchecked, could plunge the country into a major crisis.

Frank described the situation as a shift from democracy,  a contest of ideas to a “monarchical system,” and appealed to the United States, United Nations, and other global actors to intervene promptly.

“The international community must not wait until Nigeria descends into crisis or conflict before taking action,” he added. He noted that instability in Nigeria, home to over 200 million people, could trigger a massive refugee crisis in the region.

The call comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) delisted the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark.

Frank, who has been a vocal critic of the Tinubu administration, previously served as a spokesperson for the APC before falling out with the party.
