ADC: INEC Now Department of APC – Dino Melaye

Former Kogi West Senator and prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has sharply criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of operating as a department of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a video posted on his X page, Melaye accused INEC of bias and deliberately misinterpreting a court order in the ongoing ADC leadership crisis.

He claimed the electoral body’s actions have completely eroded public confidence in the commission.

“We expect that the president will either sack them or these people will sack themselves because INEC has misinterpreted the order of the court. They have shown partiality. They have shown that they are a department of APC, and we have lost confidence in them,” Melaye said.

The outspoken politician called for the removal or resignation of those responsible for what he described as partisan conduct by the commission.

Melaye’s outburst comes on the heels of a protest by ADC chieftains, led by factional Interim National Chairman Senator David Mark, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other opposition figures at INEC headquarters in Abuja.

The protest was over INEC’s decision to delist the party or allegedly favour one faction in the leadership tussle.

The ADC has been engulfed in a leadership crisis, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s control.

The party has positioned itself as a major platform for opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC is yet to respond publicly to Melaye’s latest allegations. The commission has previously maintained that its actions are guided by court judgments and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.
