Nollywood actress, Lilian Afegbai, has apologised to organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) following her earlier outburst over not being nominated for the 12th edition.
In a post shared on X on Saturday, the actress admitted her reaction was inappropriate, saying her earlier comment was disrespectful to the organisers, nominees, and her colleagues.
She acknowledged that her response was driven by disappointment after missing out on a nomination, but noted that it was not an excuse for her conduct.
Afegbai said she reacted from a place of hurt and entitlement, describing her actions as out of character and expressing regret over the incident.
She wrote, “This apology should have come earlier, That tweet should not have happened. No excuse.
“It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill A Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me.
“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded. I’ve come a long way in my journey, and for a long time I felt invisible. To Kill A Monkey felt like my “now they see me” moment, and I held on to that very tightly.
“When I wasn’t nominated, I reacted from a place of hurt, entitlement and it was out of character for me. I was wrong and I am sorry.”
The actress appealed for understanding, promising to do better going forward.
