The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially declared its support for the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a major political realignment aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP said the vision of a rejuvenated Nigeria has united opposition leaders with a singular and unwavering focus.
The party’s endorsement comes on the heels of the National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which brought together key figures from various opposition parties and interests to forge a common front against the APC-led federal government.
The NNPP warned that the current administration under President Tinubu has failed to deliver on its promises, leading to widespread hardship across the country. It cautioned the APC against taking Nigerians for granted, stressing that the coalition is determined to present a credible alternative in 2027.
“The vision of a rejuvenated Nigeria has brought the opposition together with a singular, unwavering focus,” the statement read in part.Political analysts view the NNPP’s move as a significant boost to the opposition realignment efforts, especially following recent defections and alliances within the political space.
The party, which gained prominence in the 2023 elections through its alliance with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, appears poised to play a strategic role in the evolving opposition dynamics.
The development further intensifies political conversations as various opposition blocs continue to strategize on how best to unseat the APC in the next presidential poll. The NNPP urged all well-meaning Nigerians to join the coalition in the collective quest to rescue the country from what it described as poor governance and economic mismanagement.
As the countdown to 2027 begins in earnest, observers expect more parties and influential politicians to align with the growing opposition movement in the coming months.
