Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has cautioned Nigerians against voting for him in the 2027 general elections based on religious or ethnic considerations.
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Obi, who recently switched from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urged voters to support him solely on the strength of his vision and commitment to national renewal.
“I’ve said before: do not vote for me because I’m from the South-East. Do not vote for me because I am a Christian,” Obi stated.
“Vote for me because I am committed to turning Nigeria around. And I will do it, starting from the North, because I know where the problem is. I will start bringing back the productivity that made the North safe. We will move the country from consumption to production. From sharing wealth to creating it.”
The statement shows Obi’s push for issue-based politics as he positions himself for another presidential run, emphasizing competence, productivity, and inclusive development over identity politics.
This comes amid growing speculation about opposition alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 polls.
