The Nyesom Wike-aligned faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully conducted its Kano State congress on Saturday, electing a fresh set of state executives through consensus.
The congress, supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), took place days after a Federal High Court ruling nullified the Tanimu Turaki-led national executive committee.
Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi emerged as the new state chairman.
Other elected officials include:
Ali Mati Shantake – Financial Secretary
Dr. Hafsat Abubakar – Women Leader
Musa Baba Dala – Publicity Secretary
Engr. Auwal Ya’u – Youth Leader
Barr. Abdullahi Umar – Legal Adviser
Lawan Shehu Yakasai – Treasurer
Aminu Abdullahi Taura, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the results and described the exercise as part of ongoing reforms following the dissolution of ward and local government structures across the state.
He noted widespread public frustration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and continued nostalgia for the PDP’s time in power.
Taura emphasized that the 29-member state executive council was selected unanimously by stakeholders and the caretaker committee.
He stressed the party’s unity despite past disagreements and confirmed that reconciliation efforts are actively underway to bring all leaders together.
PDP National Youth Leader Ibrahim Bala Aboki addressed delegates, highlighting the significance of youth representation at the national level under the current leadership.
He dismissed claims of factionalism, insisting the PDP remains one indivisible party, and pointed to the successful completion of congresses in 448 wards and 44 local government areas in Kano.
The congress also formally recognized Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abacha, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kano, as a key leader for his contributions to the party’s growth in the state.
Party officials pledged continued reconciliation efforts to position the PDP strongly for future elections.
This state congress forms part of the Wike-backed faction’s preparations, which include upcoming national congresses and a national convention later in March 2026.
