The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the deadline for the registration of the 2026 computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to March 13.
In an announcement shared via X on Friday, the body said
Tunji Alausa, minister of education, approved the deadline extension to enable
all prospective applicants resolve their pending registration issues.
“The final deadline is now Friday, March 13, 2026. WAEC
urges all stakeholders to take advantage of this extension to resolve any
pending registration issues as no further extension will be granted,” the
circular stated.
In September 2025, Alausa said WAEC would start conducting
its examinations nationwide through Computer-Based Tests (CBT) from this year.
According to the minister, the transition would “strengthen
and transform the architecture of student assessments” in Nigeria.
He said the federal government is supporting the
computer-based format as a strategic way to curb examination malpractice and
safeguard the integrity of the process.
As part of the reform process, WAEC has launched its digital
certificate services system, known as WAEC DigiCert, in Nigeria and four other
West African countries, including Ghana.
In a statement in February, Demianus Ojijeogu, head of
public affairs at WAEC headquarters in Accra, Ghana, said the digital
certificate service is a mobile and web-based application that provides
“enormous benefits to the various stakeholders”.
Ojijeogu said the system offers “simple features that enable
users to access, request, confirm, or share digital forms of the original
certificates”.
According to him, candidates can also recover lost WAEC
examination numbers through the platform.
