Troops Kill 38 ISWAP Terrorists in Borno, Recover Weapons

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an ISWAP attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Borno State, neutralising 38 terrorists and recovering several weapons and ammunition.

In a statement on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force OPHK, said the troops used coordinated ambushes and defensive tactics to force the attackers into a disorderly retreat.

The Air Component provided close air support and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to guide the operation.

Exploitation along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted additional losses. Eight bodies were recovered at the engagement site, while human intelligence from local residents and blood trails confirmed over 30 more terrorist bodies and abandoned weapons along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the Timbuktu Triangle.

Recovered items include seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and assorted ammunition.

No troops were killed in the operation, though one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was damaged by RPG fire. Injured personnel are receiving treatment.

The significant losses have sparked jubilation among local communities and highlight the continued effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI in restricting terrorist activities in the region.

Exploitation operations are ongoing to recover more bodies and consolidate the gains.
