Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, founder of Omega Power Ministries, has apologised for a viral video in which he sought a wife for a young autistic man under his care.
The cleric posted the video on his Facebook page on Friday, proposing to find a wife for the man and offering incentives such as accommodation, a salary, and other benefits to ensure long-term companionship and support.
The young man, who was abandoned as a child, has severe autism and requires full-time assistance with basic daily tasks like feeding, bathing, and brushing his teeth.
He does not speak or understand instructions, and previous caregivers struggled to manage his condition.
The post quickly drew widespread criticism, with many viewers describing it as inappropriate and demeaning to women.In response, Apostle Chinyere issued an apology on Saturday.
“I want to apologise to all the ladies who watched the video. I can never degrade any woman… if my comments were seen as degrading, I apologise openly. I am very, very sorry,” he said. He added, “I am truly sorry if my posts offended anyone. My goal is always to care for those who cannot care for themselves.”
The pastor explained that his intention was to find a sustainable solution for the man’s care, as the ministry currently supports over 500 abandoned children, including those with disabilities.
He runs free schools, hospitals, and housing facilities to assist vulnerable individuals. Some people had shown interest in helping following the post, but he acknowledged that the approach was misinterpreted.
He reiterated his commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the autistic man and others in his care.
