President Bola Tinubu has urged the opposition to stop criticising the Electoral Act merely to score cheap political points, describing such attacks as a great disservice to Nigerians.
Speaking at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu said the Electoral Act underwent rigorous and extensive legislative scrutiny before it was passed into law.
He noted that the reforms contained in the Act are part of deliberate efforts by his administration to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and improve the electoral process.
The President pledged that his government would continue to uphold the rule of law, conduct credible elections, and protect the integrity of the electoral system.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid growing debates over aspects of the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 general elections.
