Security forces in Kwara State have rescued three worshippers abducted during an attack on an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, March 22, 2026, while a church service was in progress.
Armed gunmen stormed the premises, fired shots to disperse the congregation, and abducted between eight and nine worshippers before fleeing into the bushes.
A swift joint operation by police, Nigerian military, forest guards, and local vigilantes was launched immediately.
The coordinated response led to the rescue of three victims unhurt during the pursuit.
Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, commended the security teams for their prompt action, which helped limit further abductions.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims (reportedly five) and apprehend the perpetrators.
The state government condemned the attack on a place of worship and assured residents that intensified operations are in place to restore safety in the area.
No casualties were reported among the worshippers, though the incident caused panic and chaos as congregants fled.
