President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the House of Representatives' approval for the 2026 statutory budget proposal of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The submission was read by Speaker Hon. Abbas Tajudeen during plenary on Tuesday, following the House's return from a three-week recess. In his letter, President Tinubu emphasized that the budget aligns with constitutional requirements under Section 299, as well as the federal government's fiscal policies, the 2026 national appropriation framework, and the 2025–2028 Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
He urged the House to expedite consideration of the proposal to enable timely implementation of development programs across Abuja, Nigeria's capital city.
The budget prioritizes key areas including improved healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare, education, infrastructure development, and enhanced agricultural productivity to reduce poverty and boost residents' quality of life.
No specific total amount for the 2026 FCT budget was detailed in the transmission, though the previous year's (2025) FCT Appropriation Bill was valued at ₦1.7 trillion.
The move comes amid similar submissions to the Senate, where President Tinubu also transmitted the FCT budget proposal and sought confirmations for key appointments.
This statutory process ensures the FCTA receives dedicated funding to support ongoing and new initiatives aimed at driving socio-economic progress in the Federal Capital Territory.
The National Assembly will now refer the proposal to relevant committees for detailed scrutiny and oversight before final passage.
