The Federal Government has launched a nationwide initiative to connect schools across Nigeria to reliable, high-speed internet, with the aim of accelerating digital learning and integrating modern technologies, including artificial intelligence into the education system.
The program forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and supports the Ministries of Education and Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in their efforts to digitize public schools and bridge the digital divide.
Core objectives include:Providing stable internet access to schools, especially in rural and underserved communities, to enable online resources, virtual classrooms, and interactive learning.
Introducing AI tools, EdTech platforms, robotics, coding, and digital skills into curricula to equip students with future-ready competencies.
Enhancing teacher training, distributing digital devices and smart boards, and promoting data-driven improvements in education delivery.
The initiative builds on recent efforts such as the 2025 Digitalization of Public Schools program, broadband expansion to educational institutions, free digital skills training, and partnerships focused on AI and emerging technologies for youth.
Officials stress that consistent internet connectivity is vital for equitable access to quality education, reducing urban-rural disparities, improving learning outcomes, and preparing Nigerian students for a technology-driven global economy.
Implementation will involve collaboration between federal agencies, state governments, telecom providers, and private sector partners to ensure broad coverage, sustainability, and measurable impact on education nationwide.
