Tinubu Running Most Incompetent Govt in Nigeria’s History – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, labeling it the most incompetent government in Nigeria's history due to persistent failures in budget implementation, policy reversals, and governance priorities.

In a strongly worded statement released by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC highlighted what it described as unprecedented fiscal disarray.

The party pointed out that Nigeria has been operating multiple overlapping national budgets, including elements of the 2024 budget extended into 2025, the 2025 budget with partial implementation, and preparations for the 2026 budget while effectively executing none fully.

The ADC cited reports showing that, as of the third quarter of 2025, only about 17.7% of the 2025 capital budget had been released, with overall implementation remaining below 30%.

The party rejected the government's explanation that such overlaps represent a "deliberate strategy" or "transition cost" for completing multi-year projects, calling it a falsehood that fails scrutiny.

Further complicating matters, the federal government recently confirmed plans to implement only 30% of the 2025 capital budget by November 2026, rolling over the remaining 70% into the 2026 fiscal framework.

This comes despite President Tinubu's earlier promise that all capital components of the 2024 and 2025 budgets would be fully concluded by March 31, 2026, a deadline the ADC deemed impossible given the current trajectory.

The opposition party singled out critical sectors for particularly poor performance:

Ministry of Power: 3.6% capital implementation

Communications Technology: 8.9%

Education: 23.5%

Health: 32.5%

In contrast, the Ministry of Defence reportedly exceeded its budget by 113.45%, largely through emergency funding via the Service-Wide Vote yet insecurity has continued to escalate, with reports indicating up to 500 Nigerians killed by terrorists in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and Kebbi states during the ongoing Ramadan period alone.

The ADC accused the Tinubu-led APC government of prioritizing re-election politics over effective governance, leading to "incalculable damage" to the nation.

It noted aggressive borrowing, record revenue claims, and high foreign reserves, yet contractors remain unpaid, budgets unimplemented, and poverty worsening with Nigeria still holding the highest number of people in extreme poverty globally, where six out of ten citizens struggle to feed themselves.

The party also highlighted repeated policy flip-flops and appointment reversals citing at least seven such instances as signs of distraction and a focus on power retention rather than service delivery.

"The Tinubu government has proven that to them, everything is about politics and power for its own sake," the statement read.

"This is why Nigerians are being slaughtered at an industrial scale across the country while the government feasts... Why are we worse off today than we were three years ago?"
