President Bola Tinubu has approved the renewal of Professor Ayo Omotayo's appointment as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, for a final four-year term.
The renewal, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on March 4, 2026.
It ensures continuity in leadership at Nigeria's premier policy think tank and strategic leadership training institution.Professor Omotayo was initially appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2021, with confirmation by the Senate in February 2022.
A distinguished academic, he is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability educated at the University of Ibadan, where he earned his PhD in Geography.
He began his career as an Assistant Lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU) in 1985 and rose rapidly to become a Senior Lecturer by 1992 at age 30.
He later served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (2012–2017) and Director of the Centre for Planning at LASU before assuming the NIPSS role.
NIPSS, located in Kuru, plays a pivotal role in policy research, strategic studies, and training senior public officials, military personnel, and other leaders to address national and continental challenges.
