President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, pending Senate confirmation. This move replaces Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to serve as Minister of State in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning—marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
In a formal letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu conveyed the nomination today, signaling a strategic shift to bolster fiscal management and economic reforms at a critical time for Nigeria's economy.
Oyedele, a 50-year-old native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, brings extensive expertise in fiscal policy, taxation, and public finance. Until this nomination, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a key body established by President Tinubu to overhaul Nigeria's tax system, streamline revenue generation, and promote economic growth.
A distinguished economist, accountant, and public policy specialist, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology. He earned a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and has completed advanced executive education programs at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele built a 22-year career at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In this role, he provided high-level advisory services on tax policy, business strategy, and fiscal governance across the continent.
Beyond his professional achievements, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School. His nomination is widely seen as aligning with the administration's focus on deepening tax reforms and enhancing fiscal discipline to support sustainable national development.
If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the Tinubu administration's economic agenda.
