Tinubu Monitoring Benue Crisis, Committed to Lasting Peace – Presidency

The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu is closely following the security challenges and violence in Benue State and is actively working toward permanent peace in the affected areas.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North Central region, Abiodun Essiet, provided this update after visiting communities in Kwande Local Government Area hit by recent attacks.

Essiet met directly with residents to hear their concerns, including frustrations over slow security responses and fading trust in authorities.

She also consulted with the Department of State Services (DSS) and Operation Whirl Stroke officials to better understand on-ground difficulties.

She assured the people of Kwande and Benue broadly that President Tinubu is "fully aware of the situation" and dedicated to resolving their issues. "We know how painful and difficult this situation is for your communities," Essiet said.

"My visit today is to personally observe what is happening and to accurately relay your concerns to the President."Emphasizing the military's impartiality, she stated: "The military will always remain neutral.

"They are committed to protecting citizens and will not support or arm any group."

She called for patience as the government strengthens security measures, promising noticeable progress soon.

Essiet further committed to raising community concerns about natural resource management with the relevant minister, pushing for better collaboration between federal and state levels so that local areas benefit through legitimate operations, corporate social responsibility, education, infrastructure, and essential services.

These efforts align with President Tinubu's push for improved government-citizen engagement, including the new Community Engagement Office for the North Central zone.

Essiet encouraged continued open communication to enable faster, more effective government action.

The reassurance follows repeated farmer-herder clashes and attacks in Benue, including in Kwande, which have caused displacement and intensified demands for stronger federal steps to break the violence
