This Govt Is Killing Nigerians’ - Amaechi Blasts Tinubu Over Maiduguri Bombings

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu's government, accusing it of gross incompetence and failure to safeguard Nigerian lives following a series of devastating bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The multiple explosions, suspected to be suicide bombings linked to insurgents, struck on Monday evening during iftar in the holy month of Ramadan.

The attacks targeted three crowded locations: a popular market (Monday Market), the entrance gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office flyover area in the city center.

Authorities confirmed that at least 23 people lost their lives, with more than 100 others sustaining injuries.

The blasts have been described by security sources as coordinated efforts to maximize casualties and spread panic in the northeastern capital, which had seen relative calm in recent years as insurgent activities shifted to rural areas.

In a strongly worded statement released by his media office on Tuesday, Amaechi condemned the Tinubu administration for what he called a persistent and unforgivable dereliction of duty.

He directly accused the president of allowing insecurity to claim lives unchecked.“This government is killing Nigerians. I repeat, President Tinubu’s government is killing Nigerians, literally destroying lives,” Amaechi said. “He has failed in the most sacred duty of protecting the lives of the citizens of this country.”

Describing the Maiduguri incident as more than a tragedy, he labeled it “a damning indictment of a leadership that has grown complacent, incompetent, and indifferent to the sufferings and deaths of Nigerians from ravaging bandits.”

Amaechi further criticized the government for issuing “hollow statements and empty promises” while those in power live lavishly and fail to act decisively.

He expressed condolences to the people of Borno State, the victims, and their families, but insisted that Nigerians “cannot continue to mourn and live in fear while Tinubu and his lackeys live ostentatiously.”

Amaechi questioned how many more lives must be lost before the government admits its failures and takes meaningful action, warning that continued negligence could eventually provoke public resistance.

The former minister described the administration as “abysmally incompetent” and lacking basic leadership skills to address the nation's security challenges.

He emphasized that true leadership demands responsibility and action, not rhetoric or excuses, and urged that those unable to guarantee citizens' safety and dignity have no right to remain in power.

The bombings have heightened concerns over the resurgence of attacks in the northeast, with the Nigerian Army warning of possible additional threats from lingering suspects in Maiduguri.

No group has officially claimed responsibility, though security officials have pointed to Boko Haram-linked suicide bombers.
