South-South Group Slams Dickson’s New NDC Party as ‘Dead on Arrival’

The South South Reawakening Group (SSRG) has strongly condemned the formation and launch of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) by former Bayelsa State Governor and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

Led by Joseph Ambakederimo, the group described the new party as a selfish, animosity-driven project with no genuine place in Bayelsa’s political landscape.

The SSRG accused Senator Dickson of establishing the NDC primarily to settle personal scores and destabilize the existing political harmony in Bayelsa West Senatorial District particularly targeting Governor Douye Diri.

According to the group, the NDC is “dead on arrival” not only in Bayelsa State but across the wider South-South region.

They argued that the party lacks any credible justification and exists solely to disrupt governance, undermine the current peace, and divide Bayelsans for the benefit of one man’s ambition.

The SSRG pointed out that Senator Dickson previously benefited from an unwritten rotational political understanding in the region, which helped propel him to the Senate.

They accused him of now seeking to destroy that same agreement in an attempt to perpetuate his own influence.

In a strongly worded statement, the group declared:“What is at stake is the Bayelsa West Senatorial district seat and nothing more. A man who has benefited from the unwritten agreement is the one now riding roughshod to destroy the same agreement that has propelled him to the Senate and wants to continue to perpetuate himself.”

The SSRG warned that no single individual’s ambition should be allowed to ignite chaos in the state.

They called on respected elder statesmen and women to speak out and caution against such divisive moves.

While acknowledging Senator Dickson’s stature and past contributions, the group urged him to reconsider his involvement with the NDC, abandon what they called a “subterranean belligerent” path, and instead work hand-in-hand with Governor Douye Diri to sustain and accelerate the positive development trajectory in Bayelsa.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the priority of unity, collective progress, and the well-being of Bayelsa people over personal or self-serving political ventures.

The SSRG cautioned Bayelsans and the broader South-South public against supporting the NDC, describing it as offering no meaningful benefit to the region.

The criticism follows Senator Dickson’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his promotion of the NDC as a national platform aimed at strengthening opposition politics and preventing a slide toward one-party dominance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
