Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Umar of the African Democratic
Congress, ADC, has denied reports circulating on social media that he was
detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, stating that he was only
invited for questioning and later released.
Speaking on the incident, the cleric said he cooperated
fully with security officials and is currently safe and free.
“I am speaking today to correct the false report that is
circulating. I was not detained by the DSS. I was invited for questioning. I
cooperated fully and I was released. I am free, I am safe and I am well,” he
said.
Umar appealed to supporters and residents of Kaduna State to
remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt peace in the state.
“I want to appeal to all our supporters and to all citizens
of Kaduna State to remain calm, remain peaceful and remain law-abiding
citizens. No one should take the law into his hands. No one should create
disorder in the name of loyalty,” he stated.
The ADC cleric also urged patience over the situation
involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, asking the public to
allow due process to take its course.
He further advised citizens dissatisfied with the current
political system to pursue change through democratic means.
“To anyone dissatisfied with the current system, the answer
is very simple: register, vote and choose better leadership when the time
comes.
“Thank you all and may Allah protect our dear state, Kaduna
State,” he added.
