One of the wives of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Asiya Ahmed El-Rufai, was denied entry through the main gate of the Federal High Court here on Tuesday as her husband faced arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The incident happened around 9 a.m. after ICPC officials brought El-Rufai into the courtroom under tight security.
Asiya, wearing an ash-coloured veil, arrived at the locked main gate and appeared visibly upset.
She approached a masked Department of State Services (DSS) operative and requested access.
“I’m Mrs El-Rufai. Who do you want me to call to allow me in?” she asked, but the officer remained silent and refused to open the gate.Asiya then said, “What is happening here today will pass,” before she was directed to use the back entrance, which she eventually did.
Minutes later, El-Rufai’s first wife, Khadija Ahmed El-Rufai, dressed in a black abaya and scarf, was also denied entry through the front gate and asked to use the back entrance.
She remained calm as she made her way into the premises. The episode occurred amid heavy security at the court as the ICPC arraigned El-Rufai alongside one Joel Adoga on charges bordering on conversion and possession of public property as well as money laundering.
