Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday morning after a Kaduna–Abuja train was involved in a collision.
The incident occurred while the train was travelling from
Kaduna to Abuja.
During the trip, the train collided with another on the same
route, forcing the service to stop abruptly.
The collision was said to have caused a violent jolt that
threw some travellers against seats and metal fittings inside the compartments.
As a result, a number of passengers sustained injuries, with
several reported to have suffered cuts and bruises.
One of the passengers, Sada Malumfashi, shared his account
of the incident on social media shortly after leaving the train, describing the
moment of the collision and its aftermath.
“Just dropped from the Kaduna-Abuja train. We heard a loud
bang and the train jolted to a stop flinging people across. Passengers got hit
and most are bleeding and severely injured. Train delayed for some 30 minutes
and resumed to Kubwa. No communication from @info_NRC on anythin,” he wrote.
In a statement, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said
the incident occurred at about 10.30 am on Monday near Asham.
The corporation said the accident involved a rear locomotive
and a passenger coach, adding that preliminary findings revealed the collision
occurred due to a coupling issue.
According to the statement, the passengers who sustained
injuries were “quickly” attended to before being taken to a nearby medical
facility for proper medical care.
No fatalities were recorded.
The NRC said technical teams were deployed to the location
and that the safety investigation bureau had arrived at the scene to conduct a
thorough investigation in line with established safety procedures.
This incident is not the first of its kind in recent times.
In August 2025, a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna
derailed with several coaches tumbling.
The train reportedly derailed after missing a point, with
footage showing stranded passengers and eyewitnesses on the track.
