Saudi Aramco resumes refinery operations after drone attack

Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company of Saudi Arabia, has resumed operations at its Ras Tanura oil refinery.

On March 2, the oil firm shut down the refinery following a fire sparked by debris from an Iranian drone attack at the facility.

According to a Bloomberg report on Wednesday, the refinery has resumed operations after the attack.

“Saudi Arabia’s biggest oil refinery has restarted operations after being halted due to a drone attack earlier this month, according to a person familiar with the matter,” the refinery said.

The Ras Tanura complex, on the kingdom’s Gulf coast, houses one of the Middle East’s largest refineries with a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The development comes amid the ongoing war in the Middle East region, which affected oil facilities.

On March 2, the QatarEnergy, the state-owned energy company of Qatar, halted the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to Iranian military attacks on its operating facilities.

The next day, the company said it will also stop production of some petroleum downstream products.

Amid supply disruptions, global crude oil price rose to $100 a barrel on March 12.

Dangote refinery, on March 9, said it was not immune to the global development as it secures its crude on international benchmarks.
