Prominent opposition figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Kaduna Governor Ahmed Makarfi, and former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido have arrived at the ongoing national convention of the PDP faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The convention, taking place at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, is being observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), represented by National Commissioners Prof. Sani Adams (SAN) and Dr. Ken Ukeagu.
Other notable attendees include former Gombe Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, BoT Chairman of the Wike faction Mao Ohuabunwa, former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, and former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose.
Wike arrived at the venue around 7:25 pm accompanied by key party leaders, including National Caretaker Working Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and Ohuabunwa.
His arrival was greeted with the immediate playing of the National Anthem, officially kicking off proceedings.
Organisers say over 2,000 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are participating in the convention.
The event highlights the deepening split within the PDP, as the Wike-led faction continues to assert its position amid the party’s prolonged leadership crisis
