The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has released a detailed list of electronic devices and documents recovered from the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as part of its investigation into alleged phone-tapping activities.
The disclosure came in court filings submitted to the FCT High Court in Abuja on March 3, 2026, in response to a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by El-Rufai against the ICPC and others.
The items were recovered during a search operation on February 19, 2026, at his Asokoro home, conducted in the presence of his wife, Hadiza, and son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai.
According to the ICPC, the recovered items include:
Nine flash drives
One memory card
Seven hard drives
A Remarkable tablet with chargers
Multiple laptops, including Apple MacBook Pro and Elumac Book Pro models
Various mobile phones and devices, such as Blackberry, Nokia N95, Toshiba, Samsung IDEOS, Google IDEOS, and 18 other mobile devices
Folders containing flight tickets stored across digital devices
The commission stated that all items were properly documented with serial numbers, types, storage details, and accessories via a Device Documentation Form.
They have been sealed and are set for forensic analysis to aid the probe. The ICPC linked the recovery to allegations of phone-tapping, with some reports indicating claims of "electronic magnetic equipment" capable of intercepting conversations and sensitive security documents.
The agency noted that El-Rufai declined to consent to forensic access for some devices.
The investigation stems from broader probes into El-Rufai's tenure, including financial allegations such as suspicious payments and missing funds, alongside his public admission on television of accessing intercepted calls involving a former National Security Adviser.
El-Rufai's family has strongly denied the presence of any specialized phone-tapping or surveillance equipment, describing the claims as "fictitious" and a "malicious smear campaign."
They insisted that only old personal mobile phones (some dating back 20 years), standard flash drives, and laptops, common household items were taken.
The family also challenged the legality of the search warrant and accused the ICPC of weaponizing the probe.
The matter remains in court, with El-Rufai currently under detention amid ongoing legal battles.
The ICPC maintains that the recovered materials are relevant to the allegations and will undergo thorough examination.
