The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has sharply criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that it can no longer be considered a functioning political party due to its severe internal crises and inability to support its members' ambitions.
In a recent statement, Morka highlighted the PDP's dysfunction as the primary reason for a wave of defections to the APC, stating, “The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party.
The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations.”
He further described these defections as a strong endorsement of the APC, emphasizing that the ruling party provides opportunities that the opposition lacks, and dismissed suggestions of Nigeria heading toward a one-party state as "utterly mischievous," given the dynamics of democratic societies.
The PDP, which once held sway with over a dozen governors, has been plagued by factional disputes and leadership struggles since the 2023 general elections, significantly eroding its influence.
Since 2025, several PDP governors have switched to the APC, with the latest being Zamfara State's Dauda Lawal.
This has boosted the APC's control to 31 out of 36 state governors, leaving the PDP with only two in Oyo and Bauchi states.
