Oyo Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Youth Clash in Asalu Ibadan


The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one suspect following a violent confrontation among youths that left one person dead in Asalu Community, Lalupon area of Ibadan.


According to preliminary investigations, community authorities alerted the Iyana-Offa Division after security guards reported a group of youths engaged in a serious altercation while residents were asleep. 


The injured victims were rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital in Iyana-Offa for treatment, where one of them identified as Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo” succumbed to his injuries.


Acting swiftly on the report, a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Iyana-Offa proceeded to the scene and the hospital. Documentation, including photographs, was carried out, and suspect Giwa Sodiq was apprehended in connection with the incident. 


The deceased's body has been deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.


The police stated that efforts are continuing to track down and arrest other fleeing suspects involved in the clash, with a view to ensuring full prosecution.


Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, praised the rapid response of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive measures in safeguarding lives and maintaining law and order across the state. 


He urged residents to stay vigilant, promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities, and provide credible information that could aid in apprehending the remaining suspects.


CP Haruna also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support and guidance from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in bolstering community policing and effective law enforcement throughout Oyo State.
