Oyo 2027: I am Best Qualified to Succeed Makinde – Reps Member, Olajide

 


Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North and South West federal constituency, has formally announced his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in the 2027 election.


Olajide, who made the declaration through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, asserted that he is the most qualified candidate to take over from incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde when his second term ends.


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain emphasized his plan to contest under the PDP platform. 


He described his decision as the result of extensive consultations with political associates, party leaders, stakeholders, and his constituents, who reportedly believe his background in public service and strong grassroots connections position him to drive further progress in the state.


Olajide praised Governor Makinde for establishing a strong foundation in governance and vowed to build upon those accomplishments if elected. 


He highlighted priorities such as fostering a sustainable economy, expanding youth opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs, and promoting inclusive development that reaches all communities across Oyo State.


"Governor Seyi Makinde has laid a solid foundation for the next phase of governance in Oyo State and my plan is to consolidate on these achievements while expanding opportunities for economic growth, social development and inclusive governance," Olajide stated.


He added: "Our focus will be on building a sustainable economy, creating opportunities for our youth, empowering entrepreneurs and ensuring that development reaches every community in Oyo State."


The announcement comes shortly after Governor Makinde reportedly encouraged interested individuals to openly declare their ambitions for the 2027 governorship race.Olajide called on the people of Oyo State to offer their prayers, support, and cooperation as he embarks on this political journey. 


He expressed confidence that, through collective commitment to the common good, the state can achieve even greater heights by continuing the momentum of the current administration.


The 2027 Oyo governorship contest is already generating interest within the PDP, with multiple aspirants positioning themselves to succeed Makinde amid discussions on competence, loyalty to the state, and continuity of his legacy
