The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party has less than 30 percent chance of securing re-election in 2027.
The party made the claim while reacting to a statement by a Labour Party member of the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, who said Governor Otti would deliver Abia State for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In a statement on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the Abia APC described Otti’s reported support for Tinubu as a “desperate and deceptive tactic” for political survival.
“Rather than openly and boldly identifying with President Tinubu, he has chosen to deploy proxies to communicate supposed support,” the party said.
"This sudden declaration of support is nothing more than a desperate and deceptive tactic aimed at political survival.
"It is clear that Governor Otti understands the reality on ground that his chances of re-election are less than 30% even with all the social media sponsored deception.”
The APC accused Otti’s camp of using proxies because the governor is aware of the tough political situation in the state ahead of 2027.
The party boasted that it remains the strongest force capable of delivering massive votes for President Tinubu in Abia, claiming it can give the President up to 90 percent of the votes in the state.
It therefore urged President Tinubu to ignore what it called “misleading overtures” from Governor Otti and instead rely on the APC’s solid structure in Abia.
