Only Three LGAs Still Face Security Threats in Benue — Gov Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced significant progress in tackling insecurity, stating that only three out of the state's 23 local government areas (LGAs) continue to experience minimal security threats, with relative peace even in those areas.

The governor made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, to the Government House in Makurdi on Thursday.

Alia highlighted the remarkable improvement since his administration took office on May 29, 2023. He noted that approximately 17 LGAs were under serious security threats at the time his government assumed power.

“Out of the 23 local government areas in Benue State, about 17 were under serious security threat when we came in. Today, only three are experiencing minimal threats, and even in those areas, there is relative peace,” he said.

The governor credited the enhanced security situation to closer collaboration between the state government and the military, along with support from the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army.

He commended the armed forces for their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.Alia urged residents to partner with security agencies by providing timely and useful intelligence, describing security personnel as dedicated partners in safeguarding communities.

The specific identities of the three LGAs still facing minimal threats were not disclosed in the governor's statement.

The visit by the Chief of Army Staff was described as timely and reassuring, coming at a period when intensified efforts are needed to sustain gains in security.

Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration's unwavering support for the Nigerian Army and other security outfits as they work to eliminate remaining criminal elements and restore full peace in Benue State.
