Okai Urges Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Turaki Faction to Quit PDP for ADC

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) grapples with fresh legal setbacks, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged key opposition figures to defect immediately to the ADC.

Kogi-based activist and ADC leader Comrade Usman Austin Okai made the call in a statement issued on Monday, targeting remaining PDP Governors’ Forum members, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, along with the faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The appeal follows a recent Court of Appeal decision in Abuja affirming a Federal High Court injunction that restrains recognition of the PDP's Ibadan national convention.

This ruling has intensified uncertainty about the party's leadership and raised concerns that candidates from the disputed convention could face disqualification before the 2027 elections.

Okai described the PDP's legal woes as a "ticking time bomb" for ambitious politicians. He warned that the Supreme Court is likely to uphold the injunction, potentially nullifying primaries concluded under the contested structure and disqualifying all associated candidates. "Staying in the PDP is a risk no serious politician should take," he stated.

Positioning the ADC as a credible alternative, Okai called it the best platform for a genuine third-force opposition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He accused the PDP of becoming a "lost cause" that could unwittingly aid the APC. "To defeat the ruling party, we must consolidate. The ADC is the only credible platform left."

Okai specifically invited the Turaki faction and PDP grassroots supporters to register en masse with the ADC ahead of upcoming ward congresses and direct primaries, aiming to build a unified, formidable opposition.

This comes amid deepening PDP turmoil, marked by factional rivalries, expulsions, and court battles that have already prompted speculation about more defections.

No immediate responses from Governors Makinde or Bala Mohammed, or the Turaki faction, have been reported.
