Dr. Peter Agada, the former Director of Finance for the Obidient Movement, has officially resigned from his position, announcing his departure about three days before holding a press conference in Abuja on March 18, 2026, to explain his reasons and introduce a new political platform.
Agada, an architect with over 30 years of professional experience, cited a fundamental mismatch between his structured professional background and the current state of the Obidient Movement.
He highlighted a severe lack of coordination, noting that he had not been informed of key meetings or ongoing activities for an extended period making it impossible to effectively perform his financial oversight duties.
In his statement during the press conference, Agada said: “I resigned my position as the Director of Finance of the Obidient Movement about three days ago and sent a letter to the headquarters that I was no longer going to continue in that role as a person, based on all the points we’ve mentioned here.”
He added that the absence of proper structure did not align with his personality or expertise.
Accompanied by former Labour Party member Temilade Adenola at the event held at his personal facility which he described as “the product of my hard-earned labour” Agada unveiled “The Movement Nigeria,” a new initiative he described as independent of any single personality or politician. “In essence, we are not supporting one particular person.
The Movement Nigeria is not built on any personality. It is not for Asiwaju, Obi or Atiku,” he stated. On funding, Agada emphasized a democratized approach: “Any movement that is being bankrolled by an individual can be completely shut down and destroyed by other individuals.
"This movement is currently being funded by some of us seated here today. The funding structure is a democratised one and not by any big man from somewhere.”
The Obidient Movement, a youth-led grassroots support network that surged during the 2023 general elections behind Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has faced ongoing questions about its organizational structure and long-term sustainability following the polls.
Responding to the development, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, expressed disappointment but sought to downplay its significance.
He revealed ongoing efforts to restructure the group into a more collegiate system rather than relying on directorates.
“The fact is that we are trying to revamp and restructure the movement. What we want to do is to have a collegiate affair instead of running this kind of directorate thing,” Tanko said.
Tanko also noted that he had not received a formal resignation letter and maintained that the movement remained united. “As far as we are concerned, we are still together. I have not had any complaint about him leaving or being kicked out.”
He described involvement in the movement as a sacrifice, adding that people may shift platforms during an election cycle.
Agada declined to disclose any specific future political alignments or endorsements for the 2027 elections.
