N’Assembly Leaders Meet Tinubu at Presidential Villa

The leadership of the National Assembly held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, shortly after both chambers resumed plenary sessions following a brief recess.

The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, saw the arrival of key figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma around 3:30 pm.

They departed shortly after 4:00 pm without addressing the press. The purpose and outcomes of the discussion were not disclosed to the public at the time of reporting.

The engagement comes just hours after the Senate and House of Representatives reconvened at 11:00 am, having postponed their earlier resumption from February 24 to allow committees to complete budget defence sessions with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

It also follows President Tinubu's recent Ramadan Iftar meetings with lawmakers and governors in late February, where he repeatedly urged the National Assembly to initiate constitutional amendments to establish state police as a measure to combat insecurity.

During those Iftar sessions, Tinubu emphasized the need for state police with safeguards against potential abuse, stating it would help secure forests, protect citizens, and free children from fear.

The National Assembly's resumption agenda includes debates on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, constitutional amendments, and the state police proposal, amid ongoing national challenges.

No official statements emerged from the meeting regarding specific decisions or topics discussed.
