ISWAP Confirms Losing 23 Fighters in Sambisa Clash with Military Troops

Intelligence intercepts have confirmed that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) lost 23 fighters in a week-long series of operations by Nigerian Special Forces in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

According to an intercepted communication, an ISWAP associate reported to a contact that troops conducted sustained clearance missions, burning down the insurgent village of Allafawa and destroying significant terrorist infrastructure and property.

Despite the heavy losses, some ISWAP elements remain scattered in the forest. Nigerian forces have kept up aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven strikes to pursue fleeing fighters and dismantle any surviving hideouts or strongholds.

Security officials stressed that maintaining this operational pressure is essential to prevent the group from regrouping or launching counterattacks. Operations continue to exploit recent gains and further degrade ISWAP’s presence in the northeast.

Sambisa Forest has historically served as a major sanctuary for ISWAP and other insurgent factions, but persistent ground and air campaigns are steadily eroding their control and safe havens in the area.
