The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has relieved Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin of his duties as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), just six months after his appointment in September 2025.
The removal, which took effect on Thursday, March 5, 2026, comes amid a broader restructuring in the force's hierarchy and barely 24 hours after Olatunji Rilwan Disu was inaugurated as the 23rd substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President Bola Tinubu.
Hundeyin, a seasoned police communicator originally appointed by former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, succeeded Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi in the role.
During his tenure, he focused on enhancing the NPF's public image through digital platforms, accountability measures, and trust-building initiatives. He was recently promoted to ACP on February 3, 2026.
A Badagry-born officer with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan, Hundeyin previously served as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, under former FPRO Frank Mba at the Zone 2 Command, and at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The decision aligns with IGP Disu's early efforts to revamp the force, emphasizing professionalism, transparency, and accountability following his appointment on February 24, 2026 (initially as acting IGP), after Egbetokun's resignation.
Disu was sworn in as substantive IGP on March 4, 2026, after endorsement by the Nigeria Police Council. No official reason has been provided for Hundeyin's removal, and the identity of his successor remains unclear at this time.
The development has sparked discussions within security circles about ongoing leadership transitions in the NPF.
