The federal government has approved ₦2 billion each as take-off grants for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe (Lagos State), and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja.
This funding will support the institutions' early operations, infrastructure setup, and rapid development, aligning with efforts to boost science, technology, and technical education nationwide.
The grants reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration's focus on expanding quality higher education and tackling key national priorities like innovation, sustainability, renewable energy, and climate resilience.
During an inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented appointment certificates to the pioneer leaders, selected for their track records and expertise.
Key appointments include:
Prof. Nosiru Onibon as pioneer Rector of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja.
Prof. Adeola Oshikoya as Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.
Dr. Angela Ajala was also sworn in as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Alausa emphasized that these institutions are strategic assets for national progress, not just additions to the education landscape. He urged the new leaders to build solid foundations, stating: “Every child in this country deserves access to world-class education.”
The appointees pledged to deliver impactful institutions that advance Nigeria's development goals, reinforcing the administration's investments in tertiary education leadership and resources.
