The Federal High Court Lagos Division is transitioning fully to digital operations, mandating electronic filing for all new cases starting April 27, 2026.
According to a statement from the court, manual filing of new cases will officially end on April 24, 2026. Lawyers and law firms will thereafter be required to use the new e-filing platform for all fresh matters.
Existing cases filed before the cutoff date will continue under the manual system until judgment is delivered.
The court has introduced a ₦10,000 penalty for any understatement of claims or misrepresentation of documents aimed at reducing filing fees. This penalty, whether the infraction is intentional or inadvertent, will be charged per filing in addition to any outstanding balance owed.
To access the e-filing system, legal practitioners must obtain a Legal Mail account. Law firms are also required to upload their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration documents. Documents requiring oaths will be processed through the e-Affidavit portal, though deponents must still physically appear before a Commissioner for Oaths.
This move is part of the Federal High Court’s broader efforts to modernize justice delivery, reduce paperwork, enhance efficiency, and minimize delays in the Lagos Division. Further details on the platform and guidelines are expected to be communicated to legal practitioners shortly.
