The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports of a planned bandit attack on Kungaboku Community and neighbouring Paze in the Bwari area of Abuja, describing the letter circulating about the alleged threat as the handiwork of “mischief makers.”
The police clarification followed reports circulated on March 15 and 16, 2026, claiming that suspected bandits had sent a threatening letter through a student of a private school in Kungaboku. The message allegedly warned of an impending attack in retaliation for the killing of one of their commanders during a recent joint security operation.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Josephine Adeh, said investigations conducted by the police revealed that the letter did not originate from bandits.
“Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the command wishes to inform the general public that the said letter originated from mischief makers seeking to spread fear and panic within the community for their mischievous purposes,” she said in a statement on Monday.
Adeh urged residents of Kungaboku, Paze and neighbouring communities to disregard the letter and remain calm while maintaining vigilance and staying security-conscious.
To reassure residents, the police command disclosed that security personnel have been deployed in and around the affected communities to forestall any potential attack and boost public confidence in ongoing security efforts.
The command also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory and called on residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to security agencies.
Residents were advised to reach the police through the command’s emergency lines, 08032003913 and 08061581938, for prompt response to security concerns.
