Former Senator Emmanuel Anosike has been elected as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
Anosike, who represented Anambra North Senatorial District and currently chairs the Anambra Imo River Basin Development Commission, emerged through a consensus arrangement at the party's state congress held at its secretariat in Awka on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The congress, attended by about 2,100 delegates, adopted the consensus list via voice affirmation.
The immediate past chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike who served for seven years was formally dissolved following a motion adopted by voice vote.
Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda (rtd), Chairman of the State Congress Committee and Returning Officer, declared the process free, fair, and credible, affirming Senator Emmanuel Anosike and the new executive in line with Articles 14 and 20 of the APC constitution.
Uche Ekwunife, Chairman of the Congress Harmonisation Committee and Director-General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, explained that stakeholders across wards and local governments agreed on a "basketing arrangement" to select committed leaders for the party's growth.
In his acceptance speech, Anosike pledged an inclusive administration that carries all members along, describing it as a new dawn for APC in Anambra.
He thanked Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for his regional leadership and reaffirmed the party's commitment to delivering President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Ejidike, in his valedictory remarks, urged members to support the new leadership and expressed confidence in the party's continued progress.
The new executive includes Chief Chidi Orji as Vice Chairman and Obi Okpala as Secretary, among others.
The congress drew prominent figures such as Prof. Obiora Okonkwo (Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines), Azuka Okwuosa, and Iyke Iliobi.
This leadership change aims to reposition the APC in Anambra ahead of future elections, building on ongoing efforts to strengthen the party's structure in the state.
