David Mark, Amaechi, Arrive in Kano Ahead of Rabiu Kwankwaso’s Defection

Top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) landed in Kano State on Monday, March 30, 2026, in preparation for the anticipated defection of former Kano Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The high-profile delegation includes:

ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark

Former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi

Senator Dino Melaye

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun

They were welcomed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo.

Kwankwaso is expected to formally join the ADC along with key allies, including Gwarzo, Senator Rufa’i Hanga (representing Kano Central), and Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashim Dungurawa. This development follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) announced on Sunday. In his statement, he cited the need for strategic political realignment to better position efforts toward national change.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect,” Kwankwaso said. He described the decision as difficult but necessary given the current political landscape, while thanking NNPP leaders and his supporters in the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their past collaboration. He expressed hope for continued work toward a better future for Nigeria.
