China Donates $200,000 to Families of Iran School Strike Victims

Beijing has pledged $200,000 in emergency humanitarian aid for the families affected by a deadly missile strike on an elementary school in southern Iran.

The donation, announced Friday, March 13, 2026, will be delivered through the Red Cross Society of China to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The funds are intended specifically for condolences and compensation to the parents of children killed in the attack.

The strike occurred on February 28, 2026, during the early stages of the ongoing Middle East conflict involving U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran. A missile hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' primary school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, killing at least 165 people, many of them schoolgirls according to Iranian authorities and media reports. The exact casualty figure has not been independently confirmed.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called the attack "indiscriminate" and a "grave violation" of international humanitarian law, stating that targeting schools and children crosses "the bottom line of human conscience and morality." He expressed deep condolences and reaffirmed China's readiness to provide additional humanitarian support to the Iranian people.

Preliminary U.S. military reviews have reportedly indicated American responsibility for the strike, possibly due to outdated intelligence leading to a targeting error, potentially involving a Tomahawk missile aimed at a nearby site.

The U.S. has initiated an internal investigation, while Israel has denied any role. UN experts and human rights groups have called for an independent probe, emphasizing the protected status of civilians, particularly children, under international law.
