Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday gifted North Korean leader Kim Jong Un an automatic rifle made in Belarus, joking that it was “just in case enemies appear.
”The presentation came during high-level talks in Pyongyang, where the two leaders signed a Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation.
Both sides described the agreement as opening a “new phase” in relations between the two nations, which are close allies of Russia and face Western sanctions.
Video from Belarusian state media showed Lukashenko handing over the assault rifle. Kim examined the weapon, performed a mock reloading gesture, and responded with “thank you,” drawing laughter from both leaders.In return, Kim presented Lukashenko with a traditional sword and a decorative urn featuring the Belarusian president’s image.
The leaders also exchanged other gifts during the meeting.Lukashenko, on his first official visit to North Korea, received a grand welcome including a guard of honour, military parade, and formal reception.
