Tension has gripped the Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State as intelligence reports indicate that armed bandits are regrouping to carry out another attack on the area.
Sources told DAILY POST that the threat alert is based on credible intelligence, prompting security agencies to place all formations on ‘Red Alert’ in a bid to foil the planned assault.
Oro-Ago and surrounding areas have faced repeated bandit attacks in recent times, resulting in killings and abductions.
The latest threat comes shortly after bandits abducted eight worshippers during an attack on the Omugo ECWA Church in the community.
Although three of the abducted persons managed to escape, the bandits are holding five others, including the wife of the church pastor, and have demanded a N1 billion ransom for their release.
The kidnappers reportedly rejected an initial N1 million contribution raised by the community and insisted on full payment of the ransom before freeing the captives.
No official statement has been issued by security agencies as of the time of filing this report.
The development has heightened fears among residents already traumatised by the persistent insecurity in the region.
