Suspected armed bandits riding motorcycles from the Benin Republic border area launched a brazen assault on Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers at a checkpoint in Bali village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, on Tuesday morning.
According to security sources, the attackers intercepted the officers around 10:30 a.m. as they were heading toward Babana Market. In the ensuing confrontation, the bandits overpowered the personnel, seizing two AK-47 rifles each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and abducting one officer identified as Umar Yusuf.
A second officer, Unisa Shehu, managed to escape but lost his weapon during the incident.Following the attack, joint security forces, local vigilantes, and hunters were swiftly mobilized to the scene.
Operations remain underway to locate and rescue the abducted immigration officer while also working to recover the stolen firearms.
