Army Kills 45 Bandits in Katsina Clash, Loses Captain and Two Soldiers

Nigerian Army troops neutralised 45 suspected bandits in a fierce gun battle near Danmusa Local Government Area, Katsina State, on March 6, 2026.

The operation, however, came at a cost, with the loss of Captain Paul Hassan and two other soldiers.According to Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mua’zu, the heavily armed bandits were advancing towards Musawa LGA in what appeared to be a revenge mission following an earlier failed cattle-rustling attempt in Alhazawa village on March 5.

Community members, aided by repentant bandits, had repelled the initial attack, killing four assailants and recovering stolen livestock.

The group regrouped and returned the next day, moving through Maidabino A ward, where they were engaged by troops from the Forward Operating Base in Dan Ali.

The ensuing firefight was described as intense and prolonged. Among the bandits eliminated were Alti nephew and second-in-command to notorious leader Adamu Alieru (Ado Aliero) and another key figure, Damale.

The operation successfully halted their advance and prevented further attacks on nearby communities.

Commissioner Mua’zu praised the troops’ bravery and sacrifice, extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers on behalf of the state government, and reaffirmed the ongoing commitment to eliminate armed criminal elements and restore peace in the region.

The incident highlights the persistent threat of banditry, cattle rustling, and retaliatory violence in Katsina State, where security forces continue to rely on community intelligence and sustained operations to counter these challenges.

No official statement has yet been issued by Defence Headquarters regarding the engagement.
