The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that 8,453 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will attend its 8th National Convention, scheduled for Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Abuja.
Party officials described the event as a key platform for decision-making, policy review, and strategic planning.
Delegates are expected to elect new national executives, assess current policies, and outline the APC’s future direction.
At a World Press Conference held on Thursday in Abuja by the party’s Media and Publicity Committee, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed the delegate figure and unveiled the convention theme: “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Idris stressed that the gathering would go beyond leadership elections to serve as a moment for reflection, consolidation, and forward planning.
He assured stakeholders that all logistics, coordination, and security arrangements had been finalized to guarantee a smooth, transparent, and incident-free event.
“We have not recorded any incidents, and by God’s grace, we will not record any incidents throughout this convention,” the minister said.On the convention budget, Idris noted that final figures were still being finalized but emphasized a flexible, self-adjusting mechanism.
The finalized budget will be made public once completed. He also highlighted ongoing national infrastructure improvements under President Bola Tinubu, which would benefit both delegates and the general public.
Aminu Bello Masari, Chairman of the 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee and former Katsina State governor, expressed confidence in the party’s readiness.
He revealed that the committee, supported by 25 sub-committees, began work about three weeks ago and had completed preparations.Masari said the APC aims to set a new standard for internal democracy, transparency, and organization.
Addressing complaints from some aspirants who claimed they were denied nomination forms, he explained that leadership positions were zoned to promote fairness and equity.
He warned that attempting to contest positions outside one’s allocated zone could cause unnecessary confusion, adding that the party had not received any official court complaints on the matter.
As preparations reach their final stages, APC officials have called on all stakeholders to prioritize unity, discipline, and transparency to ensure the convention delivers credible leadership transition and strengthens the party ahead of future political engagements.
