Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have successfully rescued three nurses who were abducted by gunmen from a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The rescue operation was confirmed on Saturday, March 28, 2026, by the Amotekun Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, at the agency’s headquarters.
The three health workers were freed around 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.
Details of the initial abduction, including the exact location of the PHC and the time of the attack, were not immediately disclosed in the statement.
However, the swift response by Amotekun operatives led to the successful recovery of the victims without reported casualties.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing health facilities in parts of Ondo State, where gunmen have increasingly targeted medical workers and other civilians.
Amotekun, established to complement conventional security agencies in tackling kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes in the South-West region, has intensified operations in forests and vulnerable areas.
The rescued nurses are said to be in stable condition and receiving medical attention. Further details on the suspects or any arrests made during the operation are yet to be released by the authorities.
Residents and health workers in the state have continued to express concerns over the safety of essential service providers amid rising cases of abduction in the region.
Amotekun has in recent times recorded several successful rescue operations, reinforcing its role in addressing insecurity in Ondo State.
