Alleged Coup: Sowore, Wives Of Detained Military Officers Protest In Abuja

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore participated in a demonstration in Abuja alongside wives of detained Nigerian military officers, who are demanding answers about their husbands' whereabouts following an alleged coup plot.

The protest highlighted growing concerns over the fate of at least 16 senior military officers reportedly arrested in connection with a suspected plan to overthrow President Bola Tinubu's government.

The wives expressed deep anxiety, stating they are uncertain whether their husbands are still alive amid prolonged detention without clear updates or access.

Nigerian military authorities previously confirmed that a suspected coup attempt was foiled, with weapons recovered during related security operations.

Some of the implicated officers are expected to face military judicial panels. The demonstration, covered by various media outlets including Channels Television, drew attention to broader issues of transparency, due process, and the treatment of detainees in high-profile national security cases.

Sowore, known for his activism and frequent involvement in protests on governance and rights issues, joined the group to amplify their calls for information and justice regarding the detained officers.

The event reflects ongoing tensions surrounding military-civilian relations and accountability in Nigeria's security apparatus. Further developments in the case, including any official responses or legal proceedings, are awaited.
